CSS and new hardware.

Tommorow if everything will go right i’ll have new hardware and i though it will be nice place to post some comparison of my actual hardware and new stuff and its relation to css gaming.

First i will write down my actual hardware config:

- CPU: Athlon 64 3500+ @ ~2560 (s939) with Scythe ninja rev.B
- RAM: Kingston 2048MB DDR1 in Dual mode with timings 7,3,2,2,1

- GPU: Ati Radeon x1950Pro (AGP) (@ 620 / 1600)
- MB: Abit uGuru

And new config:

- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e8200 (2.66) (i assume i’ll oveclock it at least to 3.7 Ghz - gl for me :) ) - Scythe ninja rev.B

- MB: Gigabyte EX38T-DQ6 (simpler) and ASUS p5e3 deluxe (more options for o/c) - which has possibility of glt and vtt changing manually.

- RAM: OCZ 2GB DDR3 (2×1GB) 1333MHz CL7 Platinium

- GPU: Palit GF 8600 GT 256 MB (PCI-E) -which unfortunatelly is a bit slower than my actual card but it was a gift so i didnt have to buy new one. Some time later i will try with 2 of those on SLI :)

Anyway there should be some performance boost aspecially with new 45nm core 2 duo o/c’ed inside :)
Now i almost finished tests on my old stuff, i’ll post it here tommorow, and later i’ll post tests of new configuration. my main purpose is to see the difference in gameplay, and ability to improve skill with a little help of new technology :))

All tests will be under Vista 32bit with SP1 integrated.

counter strike source with steam on linux.

I changed operating system lately, from windows vista to linux fedora core 7.

I wouldn’t consider this if there would be no chance to install my favourite game on it :D , but i found few articles and noticed some good changes from time i last installed such a system with graphical innterface :)

Instalation went smooth, than few updates, few more independent packages and proper graphic drivers. i got lucky because i had just right drivers for new kernel for my nvidia :) OK, it’s time for wine :) downloading and installing was easy like hell :) no ./configure make and make install <jupi>, just with yum (packages installer / manager) install wine. It downloded proper wersion for my kernel and installed it by itself so i could drink coffe and watch :D . Hell, there was no such thing on red hat 7.2 :D .

After that i checked if it works…bingo :) With gnome there were some lags on few games… but on KDE everything went smooth and surprisingly fast. i used this addres to install css with steam and it works perfeclty, performance loss is at about 10% so i cant complain :) The game looks pretty well, maybe except water :). Mouse is a little bit laggy to, but i must say linux is going the right way to get better.

Oh, and i installed and configured Compiz Fusion with Emerald Theme Manager and i must say that vista sucks :D

I’ll put some pictures later on.
