Hello Experts,

I am currently trying to configure a No Steam server for INDIA as there are many players but they have to play on distant servers as no servers exist for INDIA.

Would really appreciate, if you can help me achieve the same.

Infrastructure:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7350 @ 2.00 GHz / 2.00 GHz

Ram: 8 GB

Broadband Speed:

Upload: 10 Mbps

Download 10 Mbps

Issue: Initial setup

I followed this video and downloaded hldsupdatetool from http://storefront.st...supdatetool.exe and installed the same in the SRCDS folder. The second video in the tutorial http://youtu.be/JqOYWe6gIS4 talks about getting into oragebox folder but unfortunately i have got no such folder but a css folder.

According to Silent Sniper VALVe has released a new way to install/update srcds. VALVe did it when transformed some games (e.g. CS:S TF2 and more) into SteamPipe version. Sniper suggested me to install/update srcds you have to use the "SteamCMD" tool.

Link reference: this topic about the entire process

However while installing the same I am facing another problem. Please see below screenshot

Nice. ;)

Ok let's get started. I had the same problem with the SteamCMD tool. That tool (Steam client too) uses Internet Explorer as an external program for downloads. So the solution is this:

Change your Internet Explorer's proxy settings to "Automatically detect proxy settings".

I have IE 8 and i change IE setting to automatically detect, SteamCMD is now working. :)

Thanks Sniper.

Good that it's working now. You might also want to try this tool, it's an alternative to SteamCMD but it's much better in my opinion, e.g. it shouldn't need this IE trick: http://didrole.com/UpdateTool/

According to VALVe's topic i sent you, the app_id of the CS:S dedicated server is 232330. Don't include the "-beta" command in the command line, unless you want to install a beta version of CS:S dedicated server.

Read the topic carefully and i'm sure you will not have any difficulty or problem. But in case you have, as i said before just report your problem. ;)

lol no. Why do you think I told that it doesn't need this IE fix? Because Linux has no IE?

For every release there are two archives, one *.rar and one *.tar.bz2. *.rar is for Windows and *.tar.bz2 obviously for Linux.

All I had to do is

login anonymous

force_install_dir ./SRCDS/

app_update 232330

and the download is in progress. I didn't use the validate command.

Will post the results.

only one thing i did bad was, my current directory was c:tool

and i installed it in the same directory instead of SRCDS. Can i later cut and paste in SRCDS?

In case there are any hardcoded destinations?

Orangebox folder is gone since years hehe :D The question is what do you want to do next? Probably installing MM and SM, right?

Yes i think you can take the server files and folders and put them in a seperate folder. After you do that, next time you want to update your server you will set the force_install_dir to the directory that you put the server files and folders.

Do you want me to give you the list of the SteamCMD files and folders so not to move them too in the SRCDS folder?

Oh and btw, to successfully log out Steam servers and quit the SteamCMD, you type "quit" on console.

Move every folder and file except the SteamCMD files and folders. It would be easier and better to list the server files and folders which are much less, but i don't have the server installed on my netbook. So i don't remember exactly what they are.

SteamCMD folders:

SteamCMD files:

Very nice!

Now you have to download MetaMod and SourceMod.

Go here to download the latest snapshot version of MetaMod: Link

Go here to generate the "metamod.vdf" file: Link

Go here to download the latest snapshot version of SourceMod: Link

headHUNTERZ will tell you if you have to download the stable branch version or the development branch version of MetaMod and SourceMod. I can't remember.
