What's the internet? It's a place with freedom of speech. Or is it? It might be. But is this forum? It is. Freedom of speech is a right to say anything you want to say, even if it's an insult. But what is an insult? It's basically saying bad stuff about other people. But if the insult was unintended or out of emotions, like anger? Is it still an insult? It depends, if the insulted person felt bad after the word they heard would just lay it off, or knew that certain circumstances made the angry person say a thing, that he/she didn't really mean? Imagine this situation with you as David and your best friend Jack:
Jack: Hey David, remember the CD I lent you a week ago? I'd like to get it back.
David: I'm sorry, but I lost it.
Jack: Damn it, you fucking moron!
Okay, your best friend just offended you. What do you do? Two options - you either leave without saying anything, quietly remove Jack from your FaceBook friends, remove him from your phone contacts, stop answering any texts or messages, just ignore and never tell him why, while he's clueless or lay it off. He insulted you, so why would you lay it off? Well, Jack is your best friend and you made him angry, so it's your fault. Why would he be angry because of a CD, you might ask. Different things have different value to different people. Somebody might get angry for losing a CS:GO item, somebody else for people actions. Even though some actions may seem like not important for you, they may be extremely important for other people. What actions? Actions which are an extremely obvious to some people which expect them to be obvious to everybody else. Here's an example of an obvious action for CS community which they expect to be obvious to everybody else.
THE BOMB HAS BEEN PLANTED!
Counter-Terrorist 1: Defuse the bomb! I'll cover you!
Counter-Terrorist 2: How do I defuse the bomb?
Counter-Terrorist 1: Lol, haha!
Counter-Terrorist 2: No, seriously how do I defuse the bomb?
Counter-Terrorist 1: For fuck sake! Are you serious? Fucking retard!
TERRORISTS WIN!
Counter-Terrorist 1: We lost the game because of you! Fuck you!
Counter-Terrorist 2: Oh no! I don't care that I ruined their game! He insulted me! I don't care about his emotions! I will leave and never come back! I will never want to improve!
Now, imagine this situation, still, with you as David:
David: Hey Jack, remember the CD I lent you a week ago? I'd like to get it back.
Jack: I'm sorry, but I lost it.
What do you do? Lay it off now? Or get angry like a normal human being and call him a moron? Let's say you do so.
David: Damn it, you fucking moron!
Jack: I'm genuinely sorry!
David: NO! I hate you!
The next morning you go online on FaceBook to greet your best friend, Jack, because your anger or disappointment is gone. You laid it off, like a best friend who accepts best friend's mistakes. Suddenly, you can't find him on your friends list. You text him to ask what happened, why did he remove you. Nothing. He never responds. You stay clueless because you think that he understood that you called him a moron out of anger, just like he'd call you a moron out of his anger. You ask yourself: "What did I do wrong?". You want to apologize, but for what? For emotions? For being a human being? Jack expects you to apologize for being a dick. People are dicks. Emotions make people act like dicks. This is a normal reaction to certain things or actions. He doesn't even think about laying it off, because he got offended. Looks like you, David, finally learned new a thing about Jack. He takes everything literally. He doesn't even consider that the circumstances made you react so. You come home, tell your mother that you're concerned about Jack.
David: Jack doesn't talk to me. I called him a moron because he lost my CD. I'm both angry and lost.
Mum: Oh, you stupid. He's your friend, he's going to lay it off, because it was unintentionally.
David: You called me stupid! I'm out! I remove you from my life!
