I wonder... Is the near death phenomenon experienced by some people scientifically explained?

Explained, no. Studied, yes. See for example:

http://www.ncbi.nlm....77/?tool=pubmed

Closely related, out-of-body experiences have a likely neural basis:

http://www.ncbi.nlm....51/?tool=pubmed
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/12239558

I remember that some papers were also published on the neural origin of the "bright light at the end of the tunnel" that is sometimes seen during near-death experiences, but I can't bother looking them up now. Pubmed is your friend for that, so is google.

Alternatively, you can take LSD and forget about these NDEs... If you are lucky, you will get sweet synesthetic effects that will make for an experience to remember :) If you are unlucky, you will just be trippin' balls :)

Abstracts are your friends.

What's in these papers?

From memory: electrolyte imbalance, anoxia, dysfuction of specific cortical areas. The 2002 Nature paper describes anecdotal evidence, the 2010 paper on NDE is based on a retrospective study.

LSD doesn't make any "near death phenomenon". (Video embedding is disabled by request, to watch it press on Watch On Youtube and wait for 10 secs .)

What came before the Big Bang that led to the formation of the universe?

Big Bang follows Big Bang follows Big Bang

Evidence of events that happened before the Big Bang can be seen in the glow of microwave radiation that fills the Universe, scientists have asserted.

Cosmos may show echoes of events before Big Bang

That's right. My post certainly did not imply this. It did however imply that LSD regularly gives synesthetic experiences that are much fun.

Cosmology seems like a good "drug" too, but it takes way too much time to really get into to be efficient in my case...

As for the report posted by Zbang, it can be used by both sides in the debate god vs. no-god.
