Steam fails on Ubuntu Linux

i cant run Steam on Ubuntu linux
i do install with console
start steam, it runs its self updater, and close
and that was it
no chance to start it, no error message, just nothing
(same is for google chrome)
someone has any experience with that?

hmm i dint update video drivers, but shouldnt it still
run and say your video drivers are outdated .. or something?
anyway, i try this later on
btw, the same was happen on Debian what i tried before,
even on a different PC

well, everything works like it should, except steam ..
i forget it then, i tried everything, every install method,
every tutorial
