You did it right. Last thing what you can do is try to run game on fresh Windows+drivers+DirectX9 installation.
Or if it only crash when you open serverbrowser, then you can find nosteam servers there -> http://css.setti.info/servers/css/, then connect to server through console with command -> "connect IP:Port".

Hmmm no it will crash regardless of what i do once i open css. however if i disconnect from the internet, open css then reconnect it will be just fine, (although the server list still wont populate) i dont think it has much to do with the configuration of drivers ect... however whenever i refresh the server list my computer fan kicks in and starts to do more work than it should.. is there anyway i can disable the server list from updating? and just connect manually?

Do not open "Internet" tab in serverbrowser, then game will not download servers list.

Ok i did that and now it worked. i patched it to hl2 file and it worked it started everything worked fine but its still the same it says you got the older version... pleas help me i really want to play this game!

You extracted patch to wrong folder, extract it to proper folder.

Hello! Thanks for CSS b00bs! I can launch the game, but I can't install the patch. Your patch tolds me that it does not support x64 bits :'(

It is just rar sfx and it works in x64 OS. So fix your Windows.

I dnt got any friends thats good with computers, i have seen many peopel having this problem but when someone write the solution i dont get it.

i have downloadet cs:s and can play with bots , but i cant play in servers ?? i dont understand why? i have copied the matserservers.vdv in config. but it still dont works. when i try to connect to a server then came a message :
Host_Error: Unexepected authentication protocol -1729449496!
please help me

When I try to run the game and attempt to access the Internet tab my Internet disconnects and I have to reset my router (I'm on wifi). Is there anyway to fix this?

Try to update firmware for your router or modem. Or just buy better router.

am i the only one who cant open the console by pressing the key under esc, i have the developer console option enabled but i still cant open it. help anyone?

Try to write in console -> bind ` toggleconsole

@b00bs Good release... but there are some problems, as I hope you know, retrieving the server list... even if I change to internet tab, quit, restart, it doesn't let me to see availble online servers, just and only those i have in favorite tab... Any advice or fix for this..??

Maybe you need to wait longer, or try quit/restart few times. Or search for servers there -> http://css.setti.info/servers/css/

everything is working... and i also installed the Patch which you postet in here. But the server is still not responding. and when i type CONNECT: Server-IP
it comes the same like before with the protocol
