Setti servers were upgraded yesterday. Boosting via SMS should work reliably now. You can always write on these forums if you have problems.

Your 1) problem was probably caused by upgrade process as well - although there should always be a return message.

It seems that during the setti boost period, the amount of crashes on my servers skyrocket. If this is due to some kind of hack or exploit going around, can an admin or someone else help me patch up my Linux servers via PM? I've used the setti boost service almost two dozen times this month alone and the crashing has been a consistent problem for my servers. I'm tired of having 2-3 crashes per day as its taking a toll on my community and taking the fun out of playing. Thanks in advance!

It`s not our business to protect your server. If you cant protect your server - do not order boost.

This is what I think is happening on your server:

You have some plugins installed. Normally your servers crash every 24 hours or so. When you boost the servers start crashing every 8 hours. Reason for this is that normally there are less players. For every 500 connections your server might be crashing. In normal conditions it takes 24 hours for your server to get 500 connections. When your server is boosted the connections come faster.

Obviously it might not be related to connections. It might be 5000 kills. Or it might be some rare occurrence in-game - eg. player collision detection fails randomly - that causes the problem. When there are more player the crashing is more likely to happen.

That is quite normal with server hosting. Server admins who haven't had these problems don't know anything about server hosting.

Suggestions:
1. Remove all your server plugins and see if the server is still crashing
2. You might find a plugin that is causing problems

Or

1. Completely remove your server installation
2. Re-install
3. Run the server with as basic configuration as possible

I don't think your servers need any special "protection". Just try to re-install or remove plugins on your servers to find the cause for the crashes.

I was not trying to say it was your responsibility to secure my CS:S servers. I was trying to say that it seems to be a problem no one I know can figure out. I've tried removing plugins, tweaking plugins, no plugins, and freshly reinstalling the whole server. Sadly nothing I do seems to fix the crashes and the only thing I know is boosting seems to make them happen more frequently. I was hoping someone at Setti might know if its a crash hack and if so, how to stop it. If it was a crash hack, it might be someone intentionally crashing servers on the boost list. The odd part is the crashes don't happen in any particular order sometimes the server will go a few days and not crash, others it might crash 2-3 times in a 10 minute time span.

If you are on Linux then try removing the ".steam" directory at the parent directory of your server install. Then completely remove your server directories. Then re-install.

At Setti we've gone this through many times during the last years. Sometimes it's plugins that cause crashes and sometimes it's some random thing. When it's a random thing all you can do is re-install and hope for better.

If that doesn't help then re-install your operating system. If that doesn't help then change your hardware. Obviously these last two suggestions are something that nobody would want to do.

i dont know if it is the right place to post this, if not feel free to move it to the right section.

its a suggestion only.
some ppl maybe remember the time when u paid 2 € and the server have been boosted for 3 days, unfortunately this is changed due the list beeing to huge and coz the system can only handle 200 boosted servers.
now, if you check the boosting period you see that the servers are only boosted for like 1 day and im sure that more servers will come and that it will be 15-20hrs boost only soon.

Heres the idea...
boost 200 servers and have waiting list for more servers/ for the other servers.
so when server one was boosted 3 days, server 201 will join the boosted list for 3 days, the next server was boosted for 3 days and removed and the next server from the waiting list will be boosted.
ofc, users wil have to wait abit, but maybe max 1 day or so and the server will be boosted for 3 days and not only for some hours.

im sure the most ppl here would like it (if not correct me if im wrong) and maybe its possible to have a system like that, since setti is getting more popular each day.

dont forget that its just a suggestion/ idea
