Whats new in 1.2:

Note: Very few references are provided here because all of this content has been directly released in weekly snapshots 12w03a to 12w08a.
As of snapshot 12w03a:As of snapshot 12w04a:As of snapshot 12w05a:As of snapshot 12w05b:
  • Fixed shift-clicking the result from Crafting only giving one item regardless of the amount of material used.
  • Cats will now sit if right-clicked with an empty hand.
  • Death screen has a slight delay before buttons become active, to avoid accidentally clicking buttons when killed.
  • Survival MultiPlayer mob hitboxes are fixed, so they apply to the full mob, instead of only the head.[1]
As of snapshot 12w06a:As of snapshot 12w07a:[2]
  • World format changed for the second time, conned "Anvil", with an automatic world converter from the current "McRegion"[3].
    • Maximum build height increased to 256 (was 128).
    • Empty sections of the world will not be loaded into memory.
    • Block ids increased to 4096 (is 256) by adding a 4 bit data layer (as of this snapshot it is only working for items).
    • Block ordering will be changed from x/z/y to y/z/x in order to improve compression.
    • Packets for sending chunks will be updated (a full 128-high chunk is smaller than the old format, and a chunk with lots of empty space is much smaller).
    • Biomes will be saved per x/z column, which means they can be altered by tools.
  • Light calculations in SMP take place client-side
  • Remaining animals were moved into new AI system.[4]
  • Added Redstone Lamp [5]
  • Decreased dropping chance for rare items
  • Villagers repopulate villages based on the number of houses
  • Zombies have a chance of attacking villages at night (part of the upcoming Sieges feature)
  • Villagers have children, which always sprint
As of snapshot 12w08a:[6]Not Pre-released yet:

I know, that will be many changes, but we cant creating new map on almost every update.
Just until current map working propetly we shouldn't change it.

Updating the game with an old map causes many unwanted changes. Biomes get messed up. Buildings may even become shifted. I think it's a no brainer to start a new map with the new update.

Some of them remember the problems with the 173 map on 181 release.
Maybe we will make a compromise and move some of your surface creations to the new map ... but not shitty houses made from dirt or 30-50 cobble blocks.
But we need to wait until bukkit release and all plugins update for it. ETA none.

when is the 1.2 release date?
ok I agree to make a new map since there are a lot of new things.
But please use your logic to move houses.

Remember it is possible to use MCEdit to move important building from map to map but the time it takes is not worth it. You need to find a suitable area for your building and you need to make sure that the elevation is as close to the original maps.

Its better to just start all over again. Gives a good excuse to clean the map of ugly and unnecessary buildings.

well there is a bit time left until this,
actually on bukkit 1.2 not a SINGLE plugin works.

so sit back and relax ^^

also i found out a new map is recommended,
since biomes are totally messed up.

i did some tests on homeserver.

Well the good news is that Bukkit is now working very closely with Mojang. I believe Mojang has hired Bukkit full time. This means that as Mojang work on Minecraft, Bukkit can very quickly and easily see what needs to be changed and they will have all the code they need to work quickly to release new updates. The thing that will require the most amount of time will be all the bug fixes.
