Even when I create a LAN server, I cannot start it because it says "This server requires you to be running Steam", I've tried connecting to other servers, but they don't work either. This has all happened when I downloaded the v77 patch on this website. Is there anyone that knows how to solve this problem?

Please post

1) the output of your cs:s console after you tried to connect
2) a screenshot of the installed windows updates
3) details about the shortcut you start cs:s.

Having same exact problem:

1. Our steam ID [1:0] is not valid.  Steam must be running and you must be logged in

The server requires that you be running Steam.

3. I use the shortcut on the desktop

Run the game as administrator.
