In CS 1.6, the server master file "MasterServers.vdf" should be installed into <cs_1.6_install_path>\platform\config, for non-steam clients. Yet, I have found a Red&Black 2014 (powered by tinzo) release in which "MasterServers.vdf" is installed into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Counter-Strike 1.6 Red&Black\config", instead of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Counter-Strike 1.6 Red&Black\platform\config".

In this case, is the server browser still using the setti master file "MasterServers.vdf"?

And, in the non-steam 1.6 client, which application is using the file "MasterServers.vdf"?

Really have no idea on this...

I mean, which exe/dll file is using "MasterServers.vdf". Is it "hl.exe", or "hw.dll"? Is there any documentation on it?

Hey. Sorry for late response :)

Well, there are no documentation. It's non-steam, what you want? :)

But i can told you, that it depends on the emulator and "release". Some emulators uses config\MasterServers.vdf, some \platform\config\MasterServer.vdf. To be honest, there are something like 16 file name/path combinations i know about place of this file.

Modern releases of CS 1.6 have build-in masterserver (in some .dll), so they don't use any .vdf for masterserver.

I hope we (Setti) will release correct Masterserver installation instruction soon. I am sorry that we are not top notch on that yet :)
