The master server isn't working, and neither does it connect to any server given on the main page through the console. Please help

Masterserver should work for all game versions but you might not be able to connect all servers with outdated game.
Download another release of CS1.6, you have probably an outdated version. Masterserver is working fine.
You should also post the error message which you get when you try to connect to the servers.

Can you play any online games? It sound like your firewall is blocking the connection.
Check the serverlist at http://css.setti.info/servers/cs16 and write down few server IPs. Then start CS1.6 with a startup parameter -console (hl2.exe -game cstrike -console). Then in console write "connect". At this point you should see some error message or get to play. If not, it's your firewall causing problems.

can u please tell me where to paste masterserver file in cs1.6 and i started a dedicated server but no one see it .my ip address is 192.168.1.2:2506 when i start the server there is querry in console( Server logging data to file logsL0823001.log

I'm running the game from Cracked Steam, so how do I put the start up parameter in it? However, I can access the console in game, when I try to connect, it retries several times then says serve doesn't respond. I have my Windows Firewall totally turned off.

I've tried this with CS:S, still the same thing happens. I've made sure that there are no other firewalls in the computer. Turned off Windows Firewall. Tried from the console, and the internet tab, says could not contact to retrieve server list. Is there any tweaks I need to do to my internet connection to allow the game to reach the servers? I can ping all the servers fine from the Start>Run>ping "address" -t.

Games use UDP protocol to communicate. Ping works through ICMP. Most other connections in the internet work via TCP. Pinging a server is a quite good way to check whether your internet connection works or if the server is reachable at all. However it's not so good test method in this case. For example ping doesn't tell you that there is a CS:S server in css.setti.info's port 27015.
Online gaming is quite fundamental thing in the internet nowadays so maybe you should contact your ISP and ask why you can't play. I'm sure they can help you better. My bet is still on the firewall, maybe there is a firewall in your router.

wen ever i connect it to the server .,.,at that time it starts downloading some resources..,.,now wat can u wid that,.,.it takes hours to complete the download n wen it is complete,, it says that it has timed out ,.,.olways this happens,.,.plz,.,.help me ,..,wat can i do ??
