After you downloaded open it enter your name and Enter game. If you think that an new version came out make a bakcup of your .minecraft folder, which is in Roaming. you go there so: run %appdata% and then the first. After you did an backup open MInecraftSp and tick force update and enter game. now the latest version is downloading.
