If you were replying to me about how ping causes lag I wouldn't be satisfied with this kind of explanation. Uhh...Hmm do clouds cause rain? No, but they are involved in the cycle.
Ping is involved in causing lag, yes.Oh, yes, I have another question. If one person has high ping/latency can they lag the entire server?

The water in a lake or river, etc. gets heated up by the sun and turned into water vapor which rises into the atmosphere. Because as the altitude increases the temperature of the air gets colder, which turns water vapor into a liquid (condensation) which forms the clouds. When there is too much water in clouds (clouds get heavy) for the atmosphere (air) to hold, the water rains down to earth, and chances are at least some of the rain (or any other forms of it [snow, hail, sleet]) will fall back into a ocean, river, lake, etc. If it falls on land animals may drink it or it will just end up running into a ocean, river, lake, etc. Then this whole process will repeat it self.
And no I was not answering the ping question by saying that.

When you ask about "lag" it's not enough to talk about ping. When I ask about clouds and rain you need to explain water vaporization, condensation, temperature and stuff like that. So when I explain "lag" I see it necessary to explain latency, FPS, prediction, smoothing and stuff like that. It'd be as impossible to explain rain without explaining terms related to Earth's water cycle as it would be to explain lag without mentioning terms related to networking.
These posts explain why ping causes lag:

Lag is always there, you just don't see it all the time.

Latest CS:S engine update changes scope behaviour to be be more like described above (October 6th 2010).When you move on your keyboard you actually move on the server 100ms later, the 500ms guy moves 0.5s later. You don't notice it because your game (client) responds to your keypresses instantly and moves you somewhere - the server will then after 100ms tell where you actually moved and the client will fix the location of your view to that exact point. It doesn't fix it instantly but smooths (cl_smooth and related variables) you to that position.
Changed the way that scope zooming works so that it is no longer affected by client-server latency, and zooming begins immediately for the local player. This fixes an issue that would give an advantage to lower ping players and penalize higher ping players.
This is an update that makes latency seem smaller than it actually is. Read earlier posts (by k1ller and Mark) to understand what lag is and how it can seem smaller than it actually is.
